Drag-and-Drop Document Management Add-in for Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central

April 2021 – June 2021 · Associated with RMStegos

An academic project focused on the design and development of a custom drag-and-drop document management add-in for Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, supporting organisations moving from paper-based filing to a structured digital solution without the licensing costs of existing enterprise offerings.

The extension enables users to upload, manage and organise documents directly within Business Central through an intuitive graphical interface. Multiple document formats are supported and can be imported via drag-and-drop, stored centrally in a Microsoft SQL Server 2019 database, and associated with the relevant business records. Users can add descriptive metadata, view documents, download files and delete records as needed.

The solution was designed for cross-departmental use, with a strong emphasis on usability, clarity and minimal training requirements. Technically, it was implemented using AL for Business Central extension development and JavaScript for client-side interaction, following modular and maintainable design principles.
